Hino 300 Series Recalls

2023–2025 Hino 300 Series

Due to a manufacturing defect, the spare tyre carrier connection bolts may not have been fastened with sufficient torque and could become loose. As a result, the spare tyre and carrier bracket could detach from the vehicle whilst driving.

2011–2023 Hino 300 Series Hybrid

Due to a software defect, a warning message that indicates when the Automatic Clutch Unit (ACU) motors require replacement may not operate as intended. This may cause the ACU to stop functioning and result in a loss of motive power.

2019–2022 Hino 300 Series Hybrid

The starter Emergency Control Switches enables the vehicle to be started whilst in gear. In the event of an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) malfunction, using these switches when starting the vehicle could cause unintended movement of the vehicle. The vehicles are not compliant with the Australian Design Rule 42/04 7.2.1- Standard Controls for Automatic Transmission-Starter Interlock.

2018 Hino 300 SERIES

The rear axle housing may have been assembled with an inclined flange and stress may be applied to the axle shafts and/or the hub bearings, resulting in failure.

2013–2016 Hino 300 SERIES

Airbag inflator: As it gets older, a combination of high temperatures and humidity can cause the airbag inflator propellant to degrade. If an affected vehicle is involved in a collision triggering the airbag, the metal inflator housing may explode/rupture under too much internal pressure.

2010–2017 Hino 300 SERIES

The Automatic Clutch Unit (ACU) has two motors that operate the clutch. The ACU motor may not operate correctly if wear occurs on the internal brush. If one motor fails, the other can compensate for this and continue to operate the clutch system. In this situation the ACU may not function correctly, due to the ACU control software being unable to account for changes to the ACU motors operating characteristics.

The parking brake lever may not engage correctly when the lever is pulled up because the teeth in the ratchet mechanism may balance on the tooth tops.

The front passenger airbag inflator may be susceptible to moisture intrusion over time due to insufficient protection against moisture absorption into the propellant.

The instrument panel brace may interfere with the wire harness. This interference may cause the wire harness to become damaged by the edge of the brace, causing a short circuit.

The fuel filter element installed on the engine may crack if the engine is started and stopped frequently as durability of the fuel filter element is not enough to endure changes in the fuel pressure.

In the subject vehicles, the bolts and nuts fixing the centre bearing support bracket of the propeller shaft have been tightened to the incorrect torque.

The threaded end of the bolt installed on the air conditioner condenser bracket faces the slit of the corrugated tube of the wire harness and under certain operating conditions, such threaded end of the bolt may cause interference with the wires of the wire harness through the slit of the corrugated tube.

Due to an error in the casting of the steering wheel boss, the horn harness may be damaged or cut off when the steering wheel is turned.

In the subject vehicle, the brake fluid low level warning light ('Visible Indicator' in ADR35/02 S4.2) does not illuminate when the brake fluid level is below the minimum line in the reservoir tank. This condition is not compliant with ADR35/02 S.4.2.1. The brake fluid low level warning light circuit is fitted to the subject vehicle, however, it is connected incorrectly at the instrument cluster connection.
