2015–2018 Mazda MX-5 (ND) Mazda MX-5 (ND) 1.5 Litre Petrol Engine

Due to a manufacturing defect, the fuel pipe may become damaged over time, caused by vibration and extended high RPM usage. If this occurs, fuel may leak potentially causing a loss of motive power whilst driving. Fuel leak in the presence of an external ignition source could result in a vehicle fire.

2023–2025 Mazda CX-70 (KJ), CX-80 (KL), CX-90 (KK) SKYACTIV- G 3.3L Petrol Variants

Due to a software programming issue of the Body Control Module (BCM), the instrument cluster fuel level may not operate as intended. This may result in an incorrect display of fuel level and therefore the driver may not be aware when the fuel tank becomes empty.

2023–2025 Mazda MX-5 (ND)

Due to a software programming issue, the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) module may fail to illuminate the visual warning lights.

2024 Mazda BT-50 (TF)

Due to a manufacturing defect, the left leaf spring bracket may have been insufficiently welded and could crack resulting in a loss of vehicle control.

2023–2024 Mazda MX-5 (ND)

Due to a software issue, the parking assist control unit in the vehicle that detects obstructions when reversing may not operate as intended.

2023–2024 Mazda CX-60 (KH), CX-90 (KK) Petrol Turbo Variants

Due to a software issue, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) may impact the hybrid battery assist function. As a result, the engine may not automatically restart after entering idle stop (i-stop). In Addition, due to a software issue with the Dash Electronic Supply Unit (Dash-ESU), when the hybrid system is powered on multiple warning messages may display in the instrument cluster: • the engine warning light may illuminate; • the instrument cluster may fail to illuminate the visual and audible seat belt warnings; and • the 360° view camera functions may not operate as intended to assist the driver to detect nearby obstacles or driver errors.

2023–2024 Mazda CX-60 PHEV Variants

Due to software improper programming of the Dash Electronic Supply Unit (Dash-ESU), when the hybrid system is powered on multiple warning messages may display in the instrument cluster: • the engine warning light may illuminate; • the PHEV high-voltage battery cooling system may not operate as intended. As a result, Electric (EV) drive mode may not be available; • the instrument cluster may fail to illuminate the visual and audible seat belt warnings; and • the 360° view camera functions may not operate as intended to assist the driver to detect nearby obstacles or driver errors.

2023–2024 Mazda CX-60 (KH), CX-90 (KK) Diesel Variants

Due to a software issue, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) may impact the hybrid battery assist function. As a result, the driver may be unable to restart the engine. In Addition, due to a software issue with the Dash Electronic Supply Unit (Dash-ESU), when the hybrid system is powered on multiple warning messages may display in the instrument cluster: • the engine warning light may illuminate; • the instrument cluster may fail to illuminate the visual and audible seat belt warnings; and • the 360° view camera functions may not operate as intended to assist the driver to detect nearby obstacles or driver errors. • The clutch connecting motor and engine may not engage with appropriate timing when: - restarting the engine during EV-driving and/or - the engine may restart immediately after the transition from engine-driving to EV driving. In this condition, the engine RPM may not increase, and the engine may fail to restart. The engine can be restarted by pressing the “push start button”.

2020–2021 Mazda Mazda BT-50 (TF) 3.0 ltr Variants

The fuel hose may have been installed incorrectly and may come into contact with the engine oil level dipstick mounting bracket. As a result, fuel may leak from the damaged hose, and, in the presence of an external ignition source result in a vehicle fire.

2020–2024 Mazda Mazda BT-50 (TF) 3.0 ltr Variants

Due to a manufacturing defect in the Engine Control Module (ECM), the fuel pump control valve may remain ‘open’ and fuel supply may be interrupted. If this occurs, the engine could stall resulting in a loss of power.

2023–2024 Mazda Mazda CX-60 (KH) CX-90 (KK) Diesel Engine Variants

Due to a software issue in the transmission control module, if the brake pedal is firmly depressed to stop the vehicle the clutch for the engine and electric motor may remain disengaged during deceleration. If this occurs, power from the engine or electric motor may not be transmitted when the accelerator pedal is depressed.

2023 Mazda CX-90 (KK)

Due to a calibration issue within the Vehicle Control Module (VCM), when driving at low speeds the vehicle may falsely detect reflective objects such as metal walls, barriers or similar objects on the side of the road as an approaching object. This may trigger an unintended brake activation.

2021–2023 Mazda BT-50 (TF) 1.9 ltr Models

Due to a software issue within the Body Control Module, the parking lamps and number plate lamp may not illuminate when the vehicle is travelling below the speed of 10 kilometres per hour.

2023 Mazda CX-60 (KH), CX-90 (KK)

Due to a manufacturing defect, the gear set within the power steering assembly may not operate as intended. As a result, the driver could experience unexpected increased steering effort.

2021–2023 Mazda BT-50 (TF) 3.0 ltr Variants

Due to a manufacturing issue, the fuel hose may chafe against the engine oil level bracket and become damaged. If this occurs, fuel may leak in the presence of an external ignition source resulting in a vehicle fire.

2023 Mazda CX-60 (KH) PHEV Variants of this model

Due to a programming issue, the fail-safe driving mode which helps reduce the effects of failure in the vehicle may activate unintentionally resulting in a loss of motive power.

2013–2020 Mazda Mazda3 (BM,BN), CX-3 (DK)

Due to a manufacturing defect, the rear-view camera wiring harness may become damaged and could cause the rear-view image to become distorted or flicker.

2021 Mazda BT-50 (TF)

Due to a manufacturing issue, the transfer case blanking plug may not have been installed correctly during production. This may lead to an oil leak from the transmission.

2017–2019 Mazda Mazda2 (DJ/DL), Mazda3 (BN), CX-5 (KF), CX-9 (TC), Mazda6 (GL), MX-5 (ND), CX-3 (DK)

The low pressure fuel pump impeller may become deformed and cause the fuel pump to stop working. This can result in the vehicle stalling.

2005–2012 Mazda Mazda6 MPS (GG), RX-8 (FE) Mazda6 MPS (GG1032), RX-8 (FE1032)

Due to improper installation of the fuel pump retaining rings they may crack and result in a fuel leak. There is an additional risk of damage due to heat exposure from the engine and exhaust pipe with the RX-8 model.

2003–2006 Mazda Mazda3 (BK)

The plastic horn pad logo may become brittle and fracture during an airbag deployment.

2020–2021 Mazda CX-30

The boot's power liftgate may partially lower unexpectedly from the fully opened position when the vehicle is parked facing uphill on a slope in high ambient temperature.

2020–2021 Mazda BT-50

The rear seat belt pretensioner connector lock, may not have been installed correctly during vehicle assembly and will not tension properly.

2015–2016 Mazda CX-5

The daytime running lights (DRL) may flicker or fail to illuminate while driving.

1996–2000 Mazda EUNOS 800

Affected vehicles may be fitted with a Takata NADI 5-AT driver airbag inflator that could allow moisture to enter the unit and degrade the airbag propellant. If this occurs, the properties of the propellant may be changed so that the propellant does not react as intended during a collision, causing mis-deployment of the airbag.

2019 Mazda 3

The Smart Brake Support (SBS) system may falsely detect an object in front of the vehicle, which may initiate the automatic brake function.

2019 Mazda 3

Due to a software programming fault, the engine may not restart after entering idle stop mode until the vehicle is restarted using the Start/Stop button.

2012–2018 Mazda 3, 6 & CX-5

The affected vehicles may accumulate carbon deposits in the intake shutter valve, in addition to premature wear of certain engine components.

2018–2019 Mazda MAZDA 2

The vehicle's fuel tank may exceed the specified manufacturing dimensions and place additional strain on the fuel tank retaining strap, which may weaken or potentially break.

2017–2019 Mazda CX9

The vehicle's wiring harness connectors may have a weak retention force, which may cause communication errors between the vehicle control modules.

2019 Mazda 3

Due to a manufacturing error, the interior rear-view mirror glass may detach from the mirror housing.

2018–2019 Mazda 3 & 6

The Power-Train Control Module (PCM) software which controls the cylinder deactivation function may not operate correctly, and may cause an Intake Valve Rocker Arm to move out of position and make contact with other internal engine parts.

2015 Mazda MX-5

The metal bracket on the vehicle under cover may separate from the vehicle while driving.

2019 Mazda 3

During manufacture, wheel studs may not have been fully seated. A small gap may exist between the wheel studs and the hub assembly. Continued use of the vehicle may cause: the wheel nuts to loosen a knocking or clunking noise

2019 Mazda 3

The seat belt indicator and the front passenger air bag deactivation indicator lamps may not work correctly. The seat belt indicator may turn off when seat belts are still unfastened and the front passenger air bag deactivation indicator may turn off when the air bag is still deactivated. There is no effect on the operation of the airbag system, however the system status may not be correctly displayed.

2016–2018 Mazda BT-50

This recall is for two front brake issues: 1. Front brake hose - a front brake hose could rupture if mileage is greater than 45 000 km and the vehicle is used under conditions that require the front suspension to operate through its full range of movement e.g. off-road driving on tracks 2. Front brake caliper - the front brake caliper material may not meet specification, causing the front brake caliper to crack. If the front brake hose fails or the front brake caliper cracks, the brake system warning lamp of the instrument cluster will illuminate.

2015–2017 Mazda 3

On the affected vehicles, the front windscreen wipers may become inoperative due to a defective relay contained within the Front Body Control Module (F-BCM).

2003–2005 Mazda RX-8

The ball joint casings on the front lower control may crack, due to an inappropriate production process.

2015–2019 Mazda MX-5 (ND) Automatic

The Transmission Control Module (TCM) may incorrectly interpret an electrical signal from the gear selector lever and this has the potential to cause the automatic transmission to downshift unexpectedly, causing an abrupt wheel speed reduction.

2011–2016 Mazda BT-50

On some vehicles, a locating tab inside one or more of the side door latches may break, preventing the door from latching correctly.

2018 Mazda CX5 & CX8

The engine may not restart after being switched off.

There is a possibility that an intermittent Output Shaft Speed Sensor failure may result in an unintended downshift into first gear.

2007–2012 Mazda MAZDA2, MAZDA3 & MAZDA6

On the driver’s seat of the affected vehicles, it is possible that the Seat Height Adjustment Lifter Link may crack, or the Lifter Link Retaining Nuts may separate.

2003–2009 Mazda RX-8

The plastic fuel pump retaining rings on the fuel tank may be exposed to heat from the engine and exhaust pipes due to insufficient thermal insulation, causing heat deterioration of the plastic material of the pump retaining rings. In addition to the heat deterioration, a reaction force from the gasket (seal rubber) may be applied to the fuel pump rings. Additionally, the fuel pump discharge pipe may have insufficient durability. The effects of fuel pressure and engine/exhaust heat may cause the pipe to deteriorate.

2003–2009 Mazda RX-8

On the affected vehicles, the end of the return spring for the rear folding seatback latch may break, causing the seat latch mechanism to malfunction. Under such a condition, an abnormal noise may occur and the rear seatback may not be locked in the upright position and may fall forward and down when braking. If a child-restraint system is installed on the rear seat facing rearward, the correct clearance between the child-restraint system and the seatback will not be maintained if the rear seatback moves, potentially resulting in the child restraint system not performing as intended.

2011–2015 Mazda BT-50

On the affected vehicles, the end of the return spring for the rear folding seatback latch may break, causing the seat latch mechanism to malfunction. Under such a condition, an abnormal noise may occur and the rear seatback may not be locked in the upright position and may fall forward and down when braking. If a child-restraint system is installed on the rear seat facing rearward, the correct clearance between the child-restraint system and the seatback will not be maintained if the rear seatback moves, potentially resulting in the child restraint system not performing as intended.

2008–2016 Mazda MAZDA3,MAZDA6, CX-3, CX-5

On the affected vehicles, an inappropriate type of paint has been used on the end-cap of the external body of the Liftgate Stay Dampers (struts). In regions where exposure to salt occurs, surface corrosion may result. If the corrosion is not addressed and progresses, the external body may swell and the end-cap may split and break as the Rear Liftgate (tailgate) is opened.

2015–2016 Mazda MAZDA2

On the affected vehicles, the welding between the fuel tank and rollover valve (ROV) may peel off, causing a fuel leak.

2013–2015 Mazda MAZDA2, CX-3, CX-9

The lower nut and bolt that secures the front suspension strut to the steering knuckle may not have been tightened with sufficient torque. This may cause the nut to loosen and fall off, affecting one or both sides of the front suspension.

0 Mazda Mazda 121, Mazda 323, Eunos 30X, Mazda 626, Mazda 929, Mazda MPV

An excessive amount of grease may have been applied to the electrical contacts inside the ignition switch. The grease may carbonise due to a heat from the electric arc generated during switch operation. The carbonised grease may accumulate between the electrical contacts (moving contact and fixed contact), reducing the electrical insulation performance inside the switch.

2006–2009 Mazda Mazda6

Takata airbag inflator: As it gets older, a combination of heat and humidity can cause the airbag inflator propellant to degrade. If an affected vehicle is involved in a collision triggering the airbag, the metal inflator housing may explode/rupture under too much internal pressure.

0 Mazda MAZDA 6

Due to a programming error, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) may fail to provide an adequate supply of electric power to the fuel pump following i-Stop operation. This may cause the fuel pump to stop operating, preventing the engine restarting or stalling after initial take off. If this occurs, the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) on the instrument panel will illuminate.

2002–2004 Mazda Mazda6 (GG/GY) & RX-8 (FE)

Due to inappropriate production/storage of the propellant in the inflator of the passenger-side airbag, the density of the propellant may be insufficient. As a result, the propellant may ignite abnormally at the time of airbag deployment, which may result in extremely high inner pressure of the inflator and a rupture of the inflator case.

0 Mazda 6

On certain Mazda6 (GJ) vehicles, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) may function incorrectly, ceasing to charge the battery. This will illuminate the 'Charging system warning light' and the message 'Charging System Malfunction' will be displayed on the instrument panel. If the driver continues to operate the vehicle in this condition, this will result in battery drain, loss of essential functions, and eventually result in the engine stalling.

The passenger-side air bag inflator may have been assembled with improperly manufactured propellant.

A component inside the DC/DC converter (located under the front passenger seat) may be faulty.

The ground terminal of the windscreen wiper motor may have been inadvertently bent during the assembly of the windscreen wiper motor. This may cause a loss of the electrical ground connection, which could result in the windscreen wiper motor not functioning.

It is possible that one of the circlips that retain the piston pins within the pistons has been incorrectly installed.

There is a possibility that the Automatic Transmission Shift Cable Bracket fitted to the affected vehicles may have unnecessary welding and may not meet specification. This weld could lead to cracking/breakage of the bracket.

On certain BT-50 vehicles, the bonnet striker may receive more lateral input than expected when driven in severe conditions like a rough road and/or if the bonnet fitting condition is less that optimal. This may cause fatigue breakage of the bonnet striker in some cases.

When driving at cruising speeds with the A/C on and subjected to high ambient temperatures, the engine control system may hold the vehicle idle speed at a level higher than required when slowing down. The high idle speed may result in a reduced intake manifold vacuum value being available to provide assistance for the braking system. If the brakes are operated repeatedly when this condition is present, an increased pedal effort will be required to apply the brakes.

Due to excessive clearance at the bonnet shroud bump stop rubbers and/or missing reinforcement brackets on the bonnet striker foot, bonnet striker failure may occur. In a worst-case scenario, detachment of the striker from the bonnet may cause the bonnet to open while driving.

A bolt securing the engine and transmission assembly to one of its mounting points may loosen over time. In the worst case scenario, if the bolt comes out or breaks, the engine and transmission assembly may drop. This may allow the alternator pulley to contact the body, as a result the alternator pulley may break and the engine may stall.

The incorrect Compliance Plate Approval (CPA) number was embossed on the compliance plate.

A bolt securing the engine and transmission assembly to one of its mounting points may loosen over time. In the worst case scenario, if the bolt comes out or breaks, the engine and transmission assembly may drop. This may detach the driveshaft, resulting in the vehicle being unable to be driven.

Due to the possibility that the front suspension lower ball joint mounting bolt tightening torque may have been incorrectly set during production.

If the air bag is inflated in very cold conditions, there is a possibility that the horn bolt could fracture, causing the horn switch components to be scattered.

There is a possibility for excessive thermal heat to build up around the exhaust system. The potential exists for the excessive heat to cause electrical component failures, and in a worst case scenario, it may cause damage to the fuel tank possibly resulting in fuel leakage.

0 Mazda RX-8

There is a possibility for the front lower control arms to develop cracks around the ball joint socket due to casting defects in the control arm. The potential exists for the ball joint to become dislodged from the lower control arm, and in a worst case scenario, the driver may loose control of the vehicle.

0 Mazda E Series (SK/SY)

Potential exists for a park brake bracket within the rear brake assembly to crack, particularly where the parking brake is used frequently or with force. Should the component crack, the potential exists for it to dislodge and become wedged within the brake mechanism. Rear brake wheels could lock without warning & cause vehicle to skid.

0 Mazda MPV (LW)

There is a possibility that the automatic transmission gear selection shift lever could come loose and fall out. This may result in the driver moving the shift lever into an unwanted position.

1999–2000 Mazda MPV with 2.5 litre V6 engine (LW)

The possibility exists for the automatic transmission shift lever guide plate screw to become loose and possibly fall out, resulting in the automatic transmission shift lever moving without the driver's input.

Possibility for drag link ball joint of the steering system to crack and break. Can cause loss of steering.

0 Mazda MPV

The possibility exists for the plastic casing of the cruise control actuator cable to break, which then may cause the cable to bind and prevent the throttle linkage/valve from returning to the closed position.

The possibility exists for either of the front indicator lamps to malfunction at times.
