Due to a software issue, the headlamp low/high beam may not have been adjusted according to specifications. As a result, the headlamps could cause excessive glare to oncoming traffic or other road users.

2020–2024 VOLKSWAGEN Touareg

Due to a manufacturing issue, the cell modules installed in the high voltage battery may be defective and overheat during charging. If this occurs, it could lead to a vehicle fire. Note: Until the software is installed, we ask that you request can consumers refrain from charging the high-voltage battery using an external charging source and refrain from driving in electric only mode. We further request ask that the setting “battery hold” in hybrid mode be selected at a charge level of a maximum of 50%. These measures are required for the safety of your vehicle. You can of course continue to safely drive your vehicle in petrol mode.

2024–2025 VOLKSWAGEN Tiguan

Due to a software issue, if the driver does not have their hands on the steering wheel for an extended period, the brake jolt triggered by the Emergency Assist (EA) or Travel Assist (TA) assistance functions meant to alert the driver may be misinterpreted as the driver braking. As a result, the Emergency Assist (EA) or Travel Assist (TA) assistance functions are deactivated. Note: The instrument cluster may fail to illuminate the visual and audible warnings that the safety functions are deactivated.

2025 VOLKSWAGEN Amarok

Due to a software issue, the electromechanical brake servo control unit may switch off. As a result, the braking assistance could be reduced, requiring greater pedal force and potentially increasing the vehicle’s stopping distance.

2018–2019 VOLKSWAGEN Tiguan Allspace

Due to a manufacturing issue, the right and/or left curtain airbag/s may be fitted with a faulty gas generator. As a result, the airbags may not deploy as intended.

2024–2025 VOLKSWAGEN ID.Buzz, Polo

Due to a manufacturing issue, the front passenger airbag may be fitted with a faulty gas generator. As a result, the airbag may not deploy as intended.

2024–2025 VOLKSWAGEN T-Roc

Due to a calibration issue, the LED Matrix HD headlights may have been adjusted incorrectly. As a result, oncoming traffic could be dazzled by the dipped beam.

2023–2024 VOLKSWAGEN Amarok

Due to a manufacturing defect, the driver's seat belt may have been incorrectly anchored. As a result, the seat belt may not operate as intended.

2016 VOLKSWAGEN Crafter

Note: This is an extension of REC-001676.   If the vehicle has been exposed to high temperatures and humidity fluctuations over a long period the airbag inflator propellant may degrade. If the vehicle is involved in a collision triggering the front passenger airbag, the airbag inflator may explode/rupture.

2018–2019 VOLKSWAGEN Tiguan Allspace

Due to a manufacturing issue, the side curtain airbags may be fitted with a faulty gas generator. As a result, the airbag may not deploy as intended.

2019–2023 VOLKSWAGEN Passat, Golf and Arteon

Due to a manufacturing issue, the heat shield between the brake master cylinder and the exhaust may have been incorrectly fitted. As a result, a connection to the brake fluid reservoir could melt. If this occurs, brake fluid may leak and cause a reduction in braking performance and/or if brake fluid leaks on to a hot exhaust there is a risk of a vehicle fire.

2021–2023 VOLKSWAGEN Caddy

An airbag deactivation switch may have been incorrectly fitted instead of a blanking plug. This could cause the driver to assume that the front passenger airbag has been deactivated when it is always operational.

2023 VOLKSWAGEN Amarok

Due to a manufacturing defect, the rear driveshaft bolts may not have been sufficiently tightened during production and could become loose and detach. If this occurs, it may lead to a sudden loss of motive power.

Due to a software fault, the visual and acoustic seat belt warning system may not operate as intended.

Due to a software issue, the front windscreen wipers may fail. In the event of rain this may lead to poor visibility for the driver.

2021–2022 VOLKSWAGEN Caddy

Due to a manufacturing defect, the transverse link bushes fitted to the front axle may have been incorrectly welded. This could cause the transverse link to fracture causing the front wheels to move independently of the steering wheel, potentially resulting in a loss of vehicle control.

2019–2022 VOLKSWAGEN Golf

Due to a manufacturing issue, the radiator on some vehicles may not be properly secured. This could cause the radiator to move and may result in the loss of engine coolant. A loss of coolant will be indicated by visual and audible warnings for low coolant. If the warnings are ignored by the driver, engine overheating and subsequent power loss can occur.

2021 VOLKSWAGEN Tiguan Allspace

Due to a manufacturing issue, the rear wheel bearing housing may fracture. If this occurs it could result in loss of vehicle control.

2021 VOLKSWAGEN Polo

Due to a manufacturing issue, the roof spoiler may not have been bonded correctly and could become loose and detach from the vehicle.

2021–2022 VOLKSWAGEN T-Roc, Golf, Passat, Tiguan and Arteon

Due to manufacturing issue, the engine compartment cover may become loose. If this occurs the engine cover may move and touch the turbocharger resulting in smouldering damage or an engine bay fire.

2021 VOLKSWAGEN Polo

Due to a manufacturing issue, the sunroof frame may not have been bonded correctly to the body and could become loose and detach from the vehicle.

2020–2021 VOLKSWAGEN T6.1 Vans (Multivan, Transporter, Caravelle).

Due to a manufacturing issue, the locking mechanism on the front doors may not latch and could remain stuck in the open position.

2020–2021 VOLKSWAGEN T-Cross

The seatbelt warning (acoustic warning tone and visual display) may occasionally operate rather than continuously, in circumstances such as a seatbelt not fastened or unfastened while the vehicle is moving. If the warning does not sound continuously, a seatbelt may be unbuckled without the driver being informed.

2019 VOLKSWAGEN Touareg

If the tailgate is opened and manually pushed up too far the pre-compressed coil springs may become detached from the boot strut and detach with great force from the mounting.

2021 VOLKSWAGEN Passat

The threaded nut connecting the brake servo and brake pedal may not meet manufacturing specifications. Should the threaded nut become loose the brake pedal will no longer function leading to a reduction in braking performance and handling of the vehicle.

2021 VOLKSWAGEN MY21 Touareg

Some nuts fitted to the rear axle assembly did not meet manufacturing specifications and may break. A broken nut may lead to increased movement between the wishbone and hub carrier and a change in the wheel alignment on the rear axle.

2012–2016 VOLKSWAGEN Beetle

If the vehicle has been exposed to high temperatures and humidity fluctuations over a long period the airbag inflator propellant may degrade. If the vehicle is involved in a collision triggering the driver’s airbag, the airbag inflator may explode/rupture.

Bolts may not have been installed on the longitudinal adjustment mechanism of the driver seat.

2016–2019 VOLKSWAGEN AMAROK

The cable for the spare wheel winch can be weakened and snap when used under certain conditions (extreme dirt/dust exposure). The spare wheel will then only be secured by the secondary securing strap.

2018–2020 VOLKSWAGEN CRAFTER

Windows for a limited number of Crafter vehicles may have been incorrectly stored during production and become damaged. Affected windows could allow water into the vehicle and could even fall off the vehicle.

2018–2020 VOLKSWAGEN POLO

As a result of manufacturing, injectors fitted to vehicles may leak fuel into the engine when the vehicle is turned off for an extended period of time.

2019–2020 VOLKSWAGEN TOUAREG

A gearbox oil pipe may have been incorrectly welded which can result in a transmission oil leakage.

2016–2020 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN

The roof spoiler can partially or completely detach from the vehicle, due to the use of an unsuitable adhesive.

2011–2015 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF, JETTA, PASSAT, POLO, CADDY

Vehicles fitted with a 7 speed dual clutch gearbox have a fluid leak that can lead to pressure loss in the gearbox. This pressure loss can interrupt the power transmission between the engine and gearbox, resulting in loss of drive function.

2015–2016 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN, PASSAT CC

A faulty condenser may have been fitted inside the airbag control unit.

2008–2015 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF, JETTA, BEETLE, PASSAT, POLO, CADDY

Due to a production fault, over time a crack in the transmissions pressure accumulator can occur.

2016–2018 VOLKSWAGEN T6

On short wheelbase T6 vehicles with an electric rear lid and electric sliding doors, water may get into the vehicle interior and run onto the control unit for the electric doors.

Due to a production fault, the front seat wiring harness may be damaged.

2017–2019 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN

During a limited production period for Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace vehicles, a certain material used in the production of the rear springs was not approved for use in the process. As a result, there is a danger that a coil spring may break and damage the rear tyres.

2002 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF, PASSAT, TRANSPORTER

The propellant in the drivers' side frontal TRW airbag inflator may degrade when exposed to long periods of high air humidity and temperature fluctuations.

2015–2018 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT AND ARTEON

Certain Passat and Arteon models with a Panorama sunroof installed within a limited production period have a bonded joint between the sunroof trim panel and the sunroof frame, which may have had the incorrect primer used as part of the installation/repair process.

On Caddy vehicles of a limited production period, the front backrest padding may have been fitted incorrectly. In the event of a collision, the side airbags may not adequately deploy.

The adjuster nut for the handbrake lever can loosen. This may prevent the handbrake from being fully applied.

If a bent or broken spring obstructs the clearance of the spindle in the starter motor relay, it can lead to a blockage over time and result in a permanent current supply to the starter motor relay. This can lead to the overheating of the component.

On certain Polo vehicles of a limited production period, the welding on the towing eye in the vehicle tool kit may fail. When in use, the towing eye may tear as a result of forces exerted on it.

A clip fitted incorrectly during production may damage the power steering return hose. Hydraulic fluid could be discharged and a loss of power steering assistance would be experienced.

Certain Volkswagen Passat, Golf and Arteon models of a limited production period may have had the rear wheel bearing housing manufactured with an insufficient case hardening.

2015–2017 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF, SCIROCCO, TIGUAN, PASSAT, TRANSPORTER, MULTIVAN

Variations in the mixture ratio of the airbag propellant may prevent the airbag and/or the belt tensioner from deploying in the event of an accident.

2008–2010 VOLKSWAGEN EOS, GOLF, JETTA, SCIROCCO, CADDY

The thermal overload within the ABS control unit can interrupt the current flow to the ABS control unit. This would stop the ABS from functioning correctly and would illuminate the warning light on the dash.

2015–2017 VOLKSWAGEN CLUBSPORT

Certain Volkswagen Golf models of a limited production period may have tyre placard labels displaying the wrong specifications for the vehicle.

2015–2017 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT & GOLF WAGON

A software error may cause an inoperative dipped beam, main beam, daytime running light, rear fog light or indicator bulb to not be indicated to the driver. Operative bulbs may also be shown to be inoperative.

The laser welded seam on the front seat backrests may not have been correctly configured during production, which may impact on the strength of the welded connection.

2015–2016 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF, POLO, TIGUAN

The detent lever of the child lock can break because it was damaged during the production process. As a result of this an active child lock can unnoticeably be switched off. This may lead to the rear doors being operable from inside the vehicle.

In the event of an accident the front left side airbag may not deploy correctly because of an incorrectly folded airbag.

On vehicles with a 2.0l petrol engine, of a limited production period, the drive cam for the vacuum pump can break. As a result there is no vacuum assistance when applying the vehicle brakes.

On all affected vehicles faulty signals can be generated in the airbag control unit because of a fault in the production of an internal acceleration sensor.

The trailing arm of the rear torsion crank axle can break as a result of damage caused from impact to the vehicle such as a rear-end collision, or impact with the edge of a curb.

On some Caddy vehicles the attachments of the ball pin for the gas pressure spring on the D pillar can loosen. It cannot be ruled out that the ball pin will subsequently tear off because of the increased strain.

A limited number of Amarok vehicles had fuel pipes incorrectly positioned during production. This defect, combined with vibrations in the engine bay, may lead to chafing or cracks developing in the fuel pipes. In addition, a secondary issue has been identified with genuine towbars fitted to the same range of Amarok vehicles. The towball does not comply with the height requirements of ADR 62/02.

A fuse that protects some of the exterior vehicle lights may blow due to thermal overload.

2012–2013 VOLKSWAGEN POLO, GOLF & WAGON, CABRIOLET, BEETLE, JETTA PASSAT & CADDY

Due to electrolysis in the gearbox, the sulphur constituents in the synthetic oil can separate off. These accumulations settle between the conductor paths of the electronics in the form of conductive particles and can therefore cause an electrical short circuit and the gearbox fuse could blow. Should this happen, the clutch will fully open due to power supply failure, causing the vehicle to roll to a stop if in motion.

A small number of vehicles may have had airbags fitted that were not correctly programmed. If vehicles have the incorrect settings the diagnosis function of the side crash sensors is deactivated.

2008–2011 VOLKSWAGEN POLO, GOLF, JETTA, PASSAT & CADDY

Due to electrolysis, the DSG 7-speed transmissions are susceptible to conductive deposits forming in the gearbox control units, possibly causing the gearbox fuse to blow. Should this happen, the clutch will fully open due to power supply failure, causing the vehicle to roll to a stop if in motion.

On all affected vehicles the cooling fan can continue to run even when the ignition is switched-off.

2009–2011 VOLKSWAGEN Golf, Jetta, Passat, Tiguan, Transporter

Engine resonances under certain operating conditions could eventually lead to cracks in an injection pipe.

The direct shift gearbox (DSG) may read the clutch temperature incorrectly and activate the clutch protection function. This will illuminate a flashing gear warning light and cause juddering of the vehicle, a reduction in engine torque, and opening of the clutch (as if the gearbox were in 'neutral').

On Caddy vehicles of the affected chassis number ranges the spring clamps on the rear axle may break because of poor heat treatment.

The fuel pump may break as a result of a production fault. As a result the pump housing is not tight and a diesel fuel leak my occur.

All affected Touareg vehicles of the above chassis number range, faulty rear belt locks may have been fitted because of a riveting defect. Volkswagen will also take the opportunity to carry out additional repairs on some vehicles.

The rubber boot of the lower bearing arm can deteriorate. This can lead to premature wear of the lower bearing arm and in isolated cases, failure of the bearing arm.
